Kona Decaffeinated Coffee

 

How our Coffee Beans are Decaffeinated. 
Our unroasted ‘green’ Kona Coffee beans are decaffeinated using a 100% chemical free decaffeination method. Caffeine molecules are water soluble.   By immersing the green Kona Coffee beans in pure water that is saturated with soluble coffee components the caffeine is gently removed by diffusion from the beans into the water until the coffee beans are 99.9% caffeine free. Next the caffeine is filtered out of the solution using a carbon filtering process and the coffee beans are then gently dried and finished. This water decaffeination process does not compromise the unique flavor, body and aroma characteristics of the Kona Coffee beans.
 
Coffee beans not of Kona origin used in our coffee blends are decaffeinated using a blanching method.  The unroasted coffee beans are treated with steam to soften the bean & render the caffeine soluble. A naturally occurring decaffeinating agent made of compounds that are found in wine & bananas, are added in between blanching cycles. This process follows strict standards and repeats until the caffeine content is 99.9% caffeine free.The coffee is then dried to the appropriate moisture content and prepared for roasting
